Classic steel column type - H-type column: the "all-round player" with the best cost-effectiveness

  • 2025-07-03

Rising steel structure

1. Sectional characteristics

The shape is like the capital letter "H", consisting of flanges (horizontal plates on both sides) and webs (vertical plates in the middle), divided into hot-rolled H-shaped steel (such as HN500×200) and welded H-shaped steel (customized section)

Core advantages: strong cross-sectional bending stiffness (flanges resist bending moment, webs resist shear force), material utilization rate of more than 85%

2. Applicable scenarios

Light steel structure: single-story factory building (column height ≤15m), warehouse (such as JD Logistics Park steel column uses HN700×300)

Multi-story frame: 5-15-story office building (such as SOHO series buildings, HM440×300 is used when the column spacing is 8m)

Economical: The steel consumption is 20%-30% lower than that of box-type columns, and processing is convenient (standard profiles can be purchased directly)

3. Stress characteristics

Bending resistance is outstanding in the strong axis direction (around the web axis), and support is required in the weak axis direction (such as inter-column support to enhance lateral stiffness)

Layer tearing needs to be verified when flange thickness is ≥16mm (preheat to above 100℃ before welding)
